Joe Biden decries Hamas atrocity in Israel

President Joe Biden on Thursday decried the recent attacks by the Palestinian militant group Hamas on Israel, calling them “atrocities” and pledging to support Israel’s right to self-defense.

“The United States condemns in the strongest possible terms the recent Hamas rocket attacks against Israel, which have killed and injured civilians,” Biden said in a statement. “We stand with our ally Israel in the face of these attacks and remain committed to working together to ensure its security.”

Biden’s statement came after Hamas launched a barrage of rockets into Israel on Tuesday, killing at least seven people and injuring dozens more. The attacks were in response to Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, which had killed at least 20 people, including nine children.

The violence between Israel and Hamas has escalated in recent weeks, with both sides trading fire. The United Nations has called for a ceasefire, but both sides have so far refused to comply.

Biden has urged both sides to show restraint and to work towards a peaceful resolution to the conflict. He has also offered to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza, who have been disproportionately affected by the violence.

The United States has been a close ally of Israel for decades, and Biden has reaffirmed that commitment since taking office. He has also said that he is committed to a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but has acknowledged that it is a difficult issue to resolve.

The recent violence between Israel and Hamas is a reminder of the complex and challenging nature of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. There is no easy solution to the problem, but Biden has pledged to work with both sides to find a peaceful resolution.
